Harrison’s English as a Second Language (or ESL) program began in 2002 and is growing all the time. We teach students from dozens of countries that speak a host of native languages. Our focus is to provide them the language skills they need to better assimilate in our community. We give them a Christian perspective with devotions and songs that they can read and sing in their native tongue. Our teachers are a dedicated group who will tell you this ministry is a tremendously rewarding experience. You get to know the students, their personal stories and their families in wonderfully fun and joyful sessions that take place during one morning ad two evening sessions each week between September and June.
ESL is for anyone in our community who needs to learn English. It’s basic English across 4 levels of ability.
Classes are Tuesday /Wednesday mornings 9:30-11:30am and Tuesday/Thursday evenings 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
Many ESL students have become members of Harrison. It is truly a source of membership, but it is also an opportunity to provide many in our community with God’s word. We have a devotion after class and we read God’s word in different languages and we sing songs praising God.
If you speak English, you can be a teacher or an assistant. We are always looking for volunteers and we have all the materials you will need to have fun teaching ESL.
The classes are held in Building 100. Each level has its own room and child care is held in the children’s wing. Child care cost: $5 per child per class.
The cost to the student is $45 for classes that run from September 6, 2011 to May 17, 2012. The class provides the student with books and basic supplies.
