Missions

We are the hands and feet of Christ serving those who are hungry and in need, visiting those in prison and supporting missionaries and Disciples who have given up everything to be a guiding light to those who do not know Jesus Christ.

We are the Bible that many see and read for the first time through our serving hearts and hands and ministries that we support.

Who is our ministry for?

We serve those who are in need, in pain, lonely, lost and who are strangers to the love and warmth of Jesus Christ and His unconditional love.

There are many mission opportunities at Harrison UMC:

Loaves & Fishes Pantry Launched in the fall of 2009, Harrison UMC is a Loaves and Fishes pantry where those in need come and receive a week’s supply of food.  You can help sort the donations and stock the shelves, or take a turn at serving those who come to receive food.  Food donations for the pantry are always welcome.

Room In The Inn: During the winter months, December thru March, Harrison houses 13 homeless men / women on Wednesday evenings.  We provide them with a hot meal, showers, a comfortable bed, breakfast and a bagged lunch, as well as showing them Jesus’ love through fellowship during the evening.

Rescue Mission: Once every other month, Harrison provides dinner to the men at the Rescue Mission uptown.  Harrison’s Men’s group also provides breakfast the first Sunday of each month.  This is a wonderful opportunity to minister to those in need.

Prison Ministry: We minister to youth in prison through Kairos and Epiphany ministries.

We’re also involved with other local and international ministries such as the Kenya Orphanage, the Dalenburgs and missions trips through UMVIM and Red Bird.  Our youth serve in Jamaica and Salkahatchie, South Carolina each summer.

How does our ministry help others to grow spiritually?

Volunteers grow in heart and spirit through their serving. They come to know what Christ meant when He called us to serve others who are less fortunate, in pain and hungry. Through our servant hearts we grow in love and acceptance of those who are rejected, lost and who may be different. Through serving, we are nourishing our own relationship with Jesus Christ.

We are the sowers in the fields planting the seeds in the hearts of those who someday will flourish into beautiful flowers for Christ. Those we serve come to know the unconditional love of Jesus Christ, His forgiveness and acceptance of ALL – giving hope that only comes though knowing Christ as our Lord and Savior.

When and where does our ministry meet?

On the 4th Sunday of the month at 5 PM in Room 103
